Objectives
The tools of ICTs have great potential to achieve better healthcare and to save lives by improving access to medical knowledge. The long-term objectives are:

  • Expand access to rural healthcare services for the rural poor
  • Improve the performance of rural workers
  • Develop a telemedicine system suitable for rural primary health care centers in developing countries taking into account the health problems and infrastructure of rural areas.
  • Facilitate the efficient use of ICT to promote good health and prevent and treat major diseases.

In more detail, objectives include:

  • Building necessary capacity among health workers, technicians and physicians in order to create a pool of skilled healthcare personnel for the rural population in the district of Magura. This will involve mostly female health workers with appropriate education and training modules. This includes developing curriculum and methods to employ ICT for rural development, considering users’ background as well as entrepreneurship and business model issues adapted to the local environment.   • Developing reliable and affordable mobile medical devices for diagnostic and monitoring purposes and for rural and remote applications. This will be achieved keeping the major features of the device in mind, such as portability, robustness, scalability, data storage, transfer capabilities, display of parameters/waveforms, and monitoring cost. Modification of earlier developed telemedicine communication platforms for medical data collection, storage, and transmission will also considered.
  • Develop a communication platform into a fully-operational telemedicine system suitable for a rural environment.
  • Establish an environment suitable for knowledge-sharing among five ICT centers, one training center and a medical university.
  • Improve health of individuals and communities, strengthen health systems, and promote disease detection and prevention.
  • Develop and validate methodology to evaluate efficiencies and cost effectiveness of mobile telemedicine system for rural health care and ICT modules for rural development
